Government Mandate on the Metaverse

Ms. Roselyne Bachelot, Minister of Culture; Mr. Bruno Le Maire, Minister of the Economy, Finance, and Economic Recovery; and Mr. Cédric O, Secretary of State for Digital Transition and Electronic Communications, have drafted a terms of reference aimed at informing the government about the opportunities and challenges associated with the emergence of the metaverse.

This convergence of technologies indeed holds the seeds of a revolution in our daily lives, the full scope of which is still difficult to imagine. Nevertheless, we must be able to anticipate it in order to guide its development in a way that aligns with European vision and standards. In other words, we must make the most of the opportunities offered by this innovation while also minimizing its pitfalls as much as possible. This approach involves identifying all the impacts and interconnections of issues related to the metaverse in order to distill from these considerations the essence of what will constitute a major economic challenge.

It is for this reason that the Association for the Development of Digital Assets (Adan) will focus in this document on explaining how innovation in the metaverse is linked to the ability to exchange value digitally, pointing to significant economic potential but also raising many questions that remain unanswered to this day.
